The objective of the Esthetician/Manicurist Program is to develop a basic knowledge of the latest trends in esthetics and skin care along with a basic knowledge of the nail and its disorders.

Facials
The Strand institute’s Esthetician/Manicurist classes include facial treatment education. A facial treatment is a skin-care service involving a series of deep cleansing and nourishing therapies to the skin of the face and neck. While in esthetics school, students learn the process and tools involved with facial treatments.

Waxing
Beauty school students in the Esthetician/Manicurist program also learn about several hair removal procedures, including waxing. The Strand institute cosmetology students learn about the tools and methods involved with waxing. Students also get training in safety as well as other hair removal methods.

Makeup
The art of makeup is the ability to enhance facial features, cover and diminish flaws or imperfections as well as create dramatic effects for special occasions. Esthetics students at The Strand Institute will learn the core principals needed to become skin and makeup professionals.

Skin Care
In the Esthetician/Manicurist program you will learn the essentials of skin care. The curriculum covers products, procedures, as well as the skills to recognise problems with skin.

Body Treatment Techniques
Basic skin care is an important skill set for all cosmetologists to have. Understanding skin care enables The Strand Institute graduates to open to doors to even more career possibilities. It also ensures that our students know how to recommend, apply, and sell skin care products.

The objective of the manicure courses is to develop a basic knowledge of the nail and its disorders.

Students will learn techniques in manicure, pedicure, and artificial nail application services. The purpose of the manicurist program is to develop the knowledge and skills in the practice of manicuring and pedicuring necessary for success on the state board exam and to gain entry and continual employment in the beauty industry.

During this course of study the student will learn the basics of water and oil manicures including hand and arm massage. Also complete pedicuring procedures and application of artificial nails including acrylic, fiberglass, gels, tips, paper and silk wraps, and repairs, and the fun art of nail designs. Additional training will include professional ethics, personal hygiene, good grooming. salesmanship, desk and reception duties, etc.

During this course the student will attain 4 hours of theory per week. You will receive demonstrations, advanced classes, and work on patrons. The student will be required to take a baby board exam before graduation from the course. the 400 hours may be completed in 2 1/2 months.

Esthetician/Manicurist Program Time Commitment: 800 Hours
The approximate time for completion of the esthetics/manicure program is 37 weeks part time and 24 weeks for the full time students.

Course completion dates are subject to attending 20 hours per week for the part time students or 35 hours per week for full time students. This rigorous class schedule and hands-on training makes us one of the premiere beauty, nail, and esthetics schools in South Texas.

Academic weeks are defined as actual weeks in attendance excluding holidays, school breaks, and inclement weather days.
